Education & Youth
NULYP chapters sponsor mentoring and tutorial programs, career-planning workshops and cultural activities aimed at positively impacting the lives, and overall academic achievement, of the youth in their respective communities.
In October 2007, the local chapter hosted its first annual African American Student Leadership Conference (AASLC) for high school students. The conference catered to students and parents with a focus on all aspects of college and career preparation. It also served as a vessel for delivering $20,000 in scholarships to graduating Clark County seniors. The Young Professionals realize that we cannot make a difference alone and that is why we build partnerships. The AASLC was brought to the community through collaborations with State Senator Steven Horsford, Nevada Partners, State Farm Insurance, The Foundation for Black Education and Leadership and the UNLV Undergraduate Recruitment office. Scholarships were provided by Sen. Horsford, State Farm, Community Bank of Nevada and The Daisy Miller Charitable Foundation.
