Economic Empowerment

The National Urban League has a long history of helping adults attain economic self-sufficiency through good jobs, homeownership, entrepreneurship and wealth accumulation. We also have a long history of tracking economic trends to encourage proactive NULYP works to educate its members and the members of its local Urban League communities about the benefits of economic empowerment and asset accumulation.

Locally, the Young Professionals are working to advance an agenda that builds financial literacy among individuals 21 to 45. This year we will launch a series of financial literacy projects designed to address estate planning, homeownership, entrepreneurship, real estate investing, credit management, budgeting and wealth building, retirement planning, and advanced investment strategies.

We initiated efforts toward wealth building in 2007, delivering economic tools for smart money management thanks to valuable partnerships with Wells Fargo and Citigroup. By working with each separately, the Young Professionals presented to the community a Wells Fargo investment seminar and participated in the Citigroup sponsored National Day of Service. Each year, NULYP chapters across the country administer financial curriculums to youth and adults as part of National Day of Service. This year, the YPs look forward to delivering more educational opportunities that highlight entrepreneurialism and financial literacy.
